Mexico implements mobile line registration deadlines
Mexico is implementing a staggered national calendar to link mobile phone lines with users' CURP (Unique Population Registry Code) and official identification. This measure, overseen by the Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT), aims to reduce anonymity in mobile contracting to combat crimes such as fraud and extortion.
Users with prepaid lines must follow specific deadlines based on the final digit of their phone numbers. For lines ending in 3, the registration period concluded on September 30, with temporary service suspensions beginning October 4. For lines ending in 4, the deadline is October 15, 2026. Subsequent deadlines for digits 5 through 8 will continue through December 31.
If a line is suspended due to non-compliance, the number is not lost. Service can be reactivated once the registration is completed through the provider's digital platforms or customer service centers. During a suspension, essential services remain active, including calls to 911, citizen assistance numbers (079, 088, 089), and seismic alerts. Postpaid lines that were already associated with a user at the time of contract do not require re-registration.
