Mexico intensifies marine wildlife conservation and turtle nesting protection

Conservation efforts for marine life are intensifying in Mexico through specialized training and active nesting monitoring. In the Playa Escobilla Sanctuary, the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp) and the Oaxacan Fund for Nature Conservation conducted a workshop to train local communities in responding to sea turtle and marine mammal strandings. The training included first aid for turtles, data collection for environmental research, and decision-making simulations to improve coordination with authorities like Profepa.

In Campeche, the Grupo Ecologista Quelonios reported a positive trend in the Hawksbill turtle nesting season at Punta Xen. Volunteers have protected 1,554 nests so far this season, a significant increase compared to the same period last year. Monitoring remains active as the season approaches its scheduled end in late October, with officials noting that recent rains have favored the discovery of new nests.
