Mexico intensifies mosquito control to prevent dengue

Health authorities in Mexico are intensifying efforts to combat mosquito-borne diseases, including dengue, zika, and chikungunya, through targeted prevention and control measures.

In the southern region of the State of Mexico, the government has implemented larvicide control in 34,800 homes and eliminated over 97,000 potential breeding sites. These efforts include the nebulization of 455 hectares and the weekly installation of 951 ovitraps in endemic zones. Health officials are coordinating with municipal authorities to extend these measures to schools, parks, hotels, and spas.

In Reynosa, Tamaulipas, the Secretariat of Health has begun fumigating basic education campuses to reduce mosquito presence in areas frequented by students. Authorities have already treated 25 schools and plan to expand the operation to a total of 120 educational institutions in the coming weeks. The program includes disinfecting classrooms, hallways, and gardens to mitigate transmission risks within the school community.
