Mexico intensifies rabies vaccination campaigns for pets

Mexican states are intensifying rabies vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats to protect public health and prevent transmission to humans.

In the State of Mexico, authorities reported that the region holds the top national position in canine and feline rabies vaccinations. Between September 2023 and July 2026, the state applied 10,199,504 doses. To build on this, a reinforcement week is scheduled from September 20 to 26, involving immunization efforts across all 125 municipalities.

In Tamaulipas, the Ministry of Health announced plans to administer 80,000 additional rabies doses. This follows the previous application of 184,000 doses, with a goal to exceed 264,000 total doses. The reinforcement campaign will take place throughout September via health centers and mobile brigades, including weekend shifts. These efforts also aim to increase surveillance against the screwworm by inspecting animal wounds.
