Mexico international visitor arrivals rise 1.3% in August

Mexico saw a 1.3% increase in total international travelers in August, reaching 7,985,700 visitors compared to the same period last year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

While total arrivals grew, non-border tourists decreased by 6.6%, dropping to 1,728,382 visitors. This decline was observed in both air travel (down 6.5%) and land travel (down 6.9%). Conversely, border tourists increased by 5.4%, reaching 2,040,402. The number of international excursionists—those not staying overnight—rose by 3% to 4,216,916.

Economic impact remains positive, with total foreign visitor spending rising 7% annually to $2.409 billion. Specifically, spending by international tourists with overnight stays grew 8.1% to $2.160 billion. The United States remains the primary source of non-border tourism, accounting for 67.1% of arrivals, followed by South America, the Caribbean, and Canada.
