Ecatepec mayor inaugurates Las Fuentes well, boosting water supply for 40,000 residents
Ecatepec municipal leader Azucena Cisneros Coss opened the reperforated Las Fuentes well, increasing its output from 12 L/s to 30 L/s. The new capacity is expected to provide reliable drinking water to more than 40 000 inhabitants of the Las Fuentes housing unit.
The project is part of the Integral Plan East of the State of Mexico and was funded with support from President Claudia Sheinbaum and State Governor Delfina Gómez. Earlier this year Ecatepec also commissioned five other metered wells (San Agustín I & II, Ejidos, SUTERM, 340) and refurbished the Cruz Roja and Emiliano Zapata treatment plants, raising overall water coverage in the Quinta Zona from about 30 % to 85 %.
Cisneros Coss pledged further improvements, including park restoration, public‑space rehabilitation and street resurfacing in the community, and urged residents to resume paying for water services, noting that 83 % of the municipality’s population currently does not contribute to the system’s financing.
