Mexico issues health advisories for rainy season respiratory risks and extreme‑heat safety

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Oaxaca warned residents that the rainy season brings a rise in respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses. The agency urged especially children, older adults and vulnerable groups to maintain hygiene, avoid sudden temperature changes, keep clothing dry, cover coughs and sneezes, wash hands frequently and seek medical care for persistent fever or breathing difficulties.

In Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, the local Civil Protection and Fire Department conducted preventive training for outdoor workers—such as waste‑collection staff, delivery personnel and engineers—to reduce heat‑stroke and dehydration risks as temperatures approach 39 °C with heat‑index values above 40. Authorities recommended keeping homes well‑ventilated, ensuring adequate water for hydration and protecting vulnerable individuals. The department reported receiving five to ten daily calls for heat‑related ailments and noted an increase in gastrointestinal problems linked to the high heat.

Both advisories aim to mitigate seasonal health hazards across different regions of Mexico by promoting proactive personal and community measures.
