Mexico City heavy rain alerts trigger traffic disruptions and public safety measures

Mexico City authorities issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and hail on July 24‑25, warning of 15‑29 mm of precipitation and the risk of flooding, fallen branches and water‑logged streets. The Secretaría de Gestión Integral de Riesgos y Protección Civil urged residents to avoid crossing water‑filled roads, clear drainage, and secure doors and windows.

The rain coincided with a series of public mobilizations: twelve organized marches and seventeen large‑scale events were scheduled for July 25, prompting traffic advisories and alternative routes on major arteries such as Calzada de Tlalpan, Paseo de la Reforma and Periférico Sur. Public transit operators reported potential delays of up to 30 % on Metro surface lines, and Metrobús adjusted service on Lines 6 and 7.

National weather agencies also forecast strong rains in several states, including Michoacán, Jalisco, Nayarit and others, with up to 75 mm in some areas. Residents in affected regions were advised to prepare emergency kits, identify evacuation routes and stay alert for landslides.

Overall, the combined weather warning and large‑scale public gatherings led to heightened caution, traffic changes, and safety recommendations across Mexico City and parts of central‑western Mexico.
