Mexico issues nationwide weather alerts as heavy rains and coastal swells threaten multiple states

Mexico's National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) has warned citizens of strong to very strong rainfall across most of the country, including San Luis Potosí, Jalisco, Puebla, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Chiapas and many other states. Forecasts predict accumulations of 75‑150 mm in some areas, raising the risk of flash floods, river overflows and landslides. Wind gusts of 50‑70 km/h and elevated sea waves up to two and a half metres are also expected along coastal regions.

In addition, federal maritime authorities and Conagua have issued a preventive alert for a “mar de fondo” (swell) affecting the Pacific coast. The swell, expected from 15‑16 June 2026, could generate waves of 1.5‑2.5 m along the coasts of Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas, creating strong rip currents and raising sea‑level concerns. Authorities have urged residents to avoid flooded areas, stay away from dangerous surf zones, secure outdoor objects, and follow official guidance.
