Tropical Storm Elida and Emerging Storm Fausto Threaten Mexico’s Pacific Coast

Mexico’s national weather agencies are monitoring two tropical systems in the eastern Pacific. Tropical Storm Elida is weakening as it moves north‑northwestward, with forecast winds of about 60 mph, and is expected to become a remnant low within days. A separate low‑pressure area 940 km south‑southwest of Lázaro Cárdenas has a 90 % chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, likely to be named Fausto. Fausto formed on July 19 well off Mexico’s southwest Pacific coast, with sustained winds of 40 mph and the potential to strengthen into a hurricane. Authorities in Baja California Sur have issued warnings for strong winds, heavy rain, and elevated wave heights, advising residents to avoid flooded areas and secure objects that could be blown by wind. Both systems are expected to bring increased humidity and localized thunderstorms to the region over the coming week.
