Mexico City judge reclassifies Paola Buenrostro murder as feminicide
A judge in Mexico City has reclassified the 2016 murder of Paola Buenrostro, a transgender woman, from qualified homicide to aggravated feminicide. This decision comes nearly a decade after the crime, which was originally investigated as a homicide because the legal category of transfeminicide did not exist in the local penal code at the time.
Arturo ‘N’ (also identified in some reports as Arturo Delgadillo), the alleged perpetrator, has been formally linked to the process and will remain in preventive detention. The suspect was apprehended on August 31, 2026, in Nicolás Romero, State of Mexico, following an arrest warrant issued in 2016.
