Mexico launches 48 new domestic and international air routes to boost tourism

Mexico's tourism secretary, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced the start of operations on 48 new air routes – 29 within the country and 19 to foreign destinations. The connections, operated by Aeroméxico, Gol, Iberia, Mexicana de Aviación, Southwest, Viva Aerobús and Volaris, link cities such as Acapulco, Puebla, Puerto Escondido and Querétaro domestically, and open links to Cartagena and Medellín (Colombia), Madrid (Spain), Brasília (Brazil) and several U.S. hubs including Detroit, Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles.

The government says the expanded network will strengthen tourism, attract international visitors and spread economic benefits to more Mexican regions. By the end of June 2026 Mexico will have announced 102 new air routes as part of a broader plan to position the country as a major tourism hub.
