Separately, the Fiscalía General del Estado in Coahuila opened an investigation after a premature newborn was found alive near a trash container in the Independencia neighborhood of Castaños on 24 June 2026. The baby, who was exposed to the elements, is being treated in a local hospital under continuous observation. Prosecutors are gathering evidence and testimonies to identify those responsible for the abandonment, working in coordination with the state child‑protection agency (PRONNIF).
