Mexico launches voluntary firearm exchange campaigns

Mexico has launched voluntary firearm disarmament campaigns in multiple regions to reduce violence and improve community safety. In El Fuerte, Sinaloa, a module has been established at the Municipal Palace to allow citizens to exchange firearms for financial incentives of up to 15,000 pesos per weapon, depending on its characteristics.

Simultaneously, in Oaxaca, the campaign ‘Yes to disarmament, yes to peace’ has commenced in the Alameda de León. Driven by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), this initiative allows for the anonymous and voluntary surrender of firearms, ammunition, and explosives. Participants receive economic incentives based on an official valuation scale. Authorities emphasized that the process is confidential and designed to remove dangerous objects from homes to prevent accidents and violent incidents.
