Overview

Mexico has implemented voluntary firearm disarmament campaigns across various regions to reduce violence and improve community safety. In Sinaloa, the municipality of El Fuerte established a module at the Municipal Palace where citizens can exchange weapons for financial incentives of up to 15,000 pesos. Following the launch of these efforts, Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez reported that over 13,157 firearms have been surrendered anonymously through the program. The initiative also facilitated the exchange of 14,553 toy weapons for educational toys. This disarmament effort is part of a broader National Public Security Strategy that includes social outreach, such as the delivery of essential items, administrative services, and youth-focused programs like labor training and sports-based peace initiatives.
