Security official linked to trial for disappearance and homicide in Mexico

A security official, identified as Georgina “N”, has been linked to trial for her alleged involvement in the forced disappearance and aggravated homicide of a man in March 2022. The incident occurred in the municipality of Vicente Guerrero, Durango, where the accused is suspected of driving a vehicle to intercept the victim. The victim was later found dead.

Following her arrest by the Criminal Investigation Agency in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Georgina “N” was transferred to Durango. A federal judge has ordered mandatory pretrial detention, and she will be held at the Federal Center for Social Reintegration (Cefereso) number 16 in Morelos. A three-month period has been established for the conclusion of the complementary investigation.

Separately, in Guanajuato, reports indicate that Juan Francisco Vera Ayala has left his position as the head of the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR). This departure follows a controversy regarding the seizure of 59 million liters of fuel at a storage terminal in San José de Iturbide, which was initially investigated as illegal fuel before the case was transferred to central offices in Mexico City. Norma Quevedo Vázquez is reportedly expected to succeed him.
