Ensenada court convicts three men for 2024 triple murder of surfers

A Mexican court in Ensenada has found three men guilty of the 2024 murders of Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend, Carter Rhoad. The defendants—Jesús Gerardo García (known as ‘El Kekas’), Irineo Francisco, and Ángel Jesús—were convicted of aggravated homicide, aggravated robbery, violent robbery, and violent vehicle theft.

The victims were camping at a remote beach in Baja California when they were attacked during an attempted robbery of their vehicle. Their bodies were discovered on May 3, 2024, at the bottom of a well, having sustained gunshot wounds to the head. The judge ruled that the killings were committed with premeditation.

While the maximum sentence in Baja California is 60 years, prosecutors have requested an exemplary sentence of 210 years for each defendant. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 16.

In a separate proceeding, Ary Gisell Silva Raya, the former partner of García, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in instigating the robbery.
