A trial has commenced in Ensenada, Mexico, for three men accused of the 2024 murders of Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend, Jack Carter Rhoad. The victims were killed during a surfing trip in Baja California during a suspected robbery attempt involving their pickup truck, which was later found burned. Their bodies were discovered in a cliff-top shaft or well.

The defendants—identified as Jesus Gerardo (known as ‘El Kekas’), Irineo Francisco, and Angel Jesus—face charges including aggravated homicide and aggravated robbery. The suspects previously rejected a plea deal that would have resulted in prison sentences between 47 and 52 years. This follows the prior sentencing of Garcia’s former partner, Silva Raya, who received 20 years in prison after admitting she instigated the robbery to steal the vehicle's tires.

The judge-only trial has faced complications regarding witness safety. A judge ordered the defendants to be moved to a separate room following reports of intimidation. One witness, who is currently under protection, testified that they were “threatened with death” after witnessing the incident. The parents of the Robinson brothers have traveled from Perth, Australia, to attend the hearings.
