Mexico Navy establishes maritime bridge for Baja California Sur hurricane relief

The Mexican Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) has established a maritime bridge to deliver humanitarian aid and specialized equipment to Baja California Sur following the impact of Hurricane Polo. The hurricane made landfall as a category two storm near Las Barrancas in the Comondú municipality.

To support affected populations, the Navy is utilizing surface vessels to transport supplies to areas where road damage or weather conditions may prevent land access. The logistical support vessel Isla Tiburón (BAL-01) arrived at the Fourth Naval Region dock in Mazatlán, carrying an MI-17 helicopter, 2,000 food parcels, 8,000 liters of potable water, two backhoes, three Ural-type vehicles, three Zodiac boats, and excavation equipment.

Operational command centers have been established in Ciudad Constitución, La Paz, Topolobampo, and Puerto Peñasco to coordinate relief efforts. In addition to maritime transport, naval personnel are conducting preventive patrols in La Paz and Santa Rosalía, delivering supplies to shelters in Loreto and placing sandbags in flood-prone areas.
