Mexico orders demolition of Punta Paraíso resort in San Pancho

The Mexican Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has issued an unappealable federal order for the total demolition of the Punta Paraíso residential complex in San Pancho, Bahía de Banderas. Under Administrative Resolution No. 1551/2026, the municipality of Bahía de Banderas has one year to complete the demolition and removal of structures located within the maritime-terrestrial federal zone.

The order follows technical reports from civil protection agencies indicating that the infrastructure suffered irreversible damage from hurricanes Polo and Rachel. The damage includes severe scouring, foundation failure, and the collapse of retaining walls, posing a direct threat to public safety.

In response to the imminent risk of collapse, the Mexican Navy has cordoned off the area to prevent tourists and swimmers from approaching the site. While the demolition is urgent to prevent debris from entering the sea, a specific date for the controlled demolition has not yet been established.
