Claudia Sheinbaum announces 20 billion‑peso health investment for IMSS, ISSSTE and IMSS Bienestar

President Claudia Sheinbaum disclosed a 20 billion‑peso investment to modernize Mexico’s public health system, covering the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), the Institute for Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE) and IMSS Bienestar. The funds will purchase 17 high‑resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) units for IMSS hospitals in 12 states, acquire 2,275 new electric, fire‑retardant hospital beds for ISSSTE, and rebuild three operating rooms in Monterrey with advanced surgical equipment.

A new National Fetal Surgery Unit was created in Villahermosa’s Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad, enabling fetal procedures, and IMSS Bienestar will add 174 high‑specialty devices, including five linear accelerators, 117 AI‑enhanced mammography systems, additional MRI scanners and tomographs. The plan also includes hiring more specialists and establishing a remote imaging center to interpret studies without moving patients.
