Mexico records $110 million agro‑food trade surplus with South Korea

Mexico’s Ministry of Agriculture reported that bilateral agro‑food trade with the Republic of Korea amounted to $228 million in 2025. Exports from Mexico reached $169 million, driven by high‑value products such as sea urchins, pork and beef meat, sardines, fish, coffee, vegetable oils and tequila. Imports from Korea were $59 million, mainly processed foods and beverages. The resulting trade balance left Mexico with a $110 million surplus.

The surplus reflects a strategic partnership promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum, aimed at expanding market access for small‑scale producers and strengthening food‑safety standards. Both governments recently concluded a capacity‑building programme on agro‑food safety, facilitating the exchange of technical knowledge and regulatory experience.

Key export volumes included 20.5 thousand tonnes of sea urchins, 9.3 thousand tonnes of pork, 8.9 thousand tonnes of animal products, 6.9 thousand tonnes each of sardines and fish, and 600 thousand litres of tequila.
