Mexico posts $2.26 billion trade surplus in May 2026

Mexico's balance of trade recorded a surplus of $2.259 billion in May 2026, 83.4% higher than the same month a year earlier. The monthly surplus fell from $4.520 billion in April, driven by a smaller excess in non‑oil products, which dropped from $7.216 billion to $4.901 billion, and a slight reduction in the oil‑product surplus.

From January to May 2026, the cumulative surplus reached $5.767 billion, compared with $918 million in the same period of 2025. Exports rose 25.4% YoY to $69.544 billion, led by a 25.6% increase in non‑oil exports and an 18% rise in oil exports. Manufactured goods exports hit $62.990 billion, up 25.1%, with notable gains in special machinery (+98.1%), mineral‑metal products (+47.2%), electrical equipment (+13.8%), and plastics (+4.3%).

Imports totalled $67.285 billion, up 24% YoY. Petroleum imports grew 27.9% while non‑petroleum imports rose 23.7%. Consumer goods imports reached $8.305 billion (up 6.5%). Imports of intermediate goods climbed to $54.314 billion, a 29.8% increase, and capital goods imports amounted to $4.667 billion, up 1.6%.
