Mexico's Governor Rubén Rocha Moya Not Under Federal Protection, Sheinbaum Says
President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Sinaloa governor Rubén Rocha Moya is at his home and is not being shielded by federal forces. The federal security cabinet rejected media reports of a special operation that allegedly moved the governor to a military installation, stating no armed forces have been tasked with hiding him.
The United States Department of Justice has listed Rocha Moya, along with Senator Enrique Inzunza, as suspects in a conspiracy with the Sinaloa cartel and has sought their extradition. Inzunza resurfaced on social media, posting a photograph and confirming he is not under any federal guard. Sheinbaum reiterated that her administration does not negotiate with organized crime and highlighted recent security successes, including the capture of over 56,000 high‑impact criminals.
The dispute underscores ongoing tensions between Mexico and the United States over alleged cartel connections among Mexican public officials and the Mexican government's denials of any protective operations.
