Mexico President Sheinbaum links former prosecutor to CIA raid
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos identified former state prosecutor César Jáuregui as the individual responsible for bringing CIA agents into a drug-lab raid.
The incident follows an April raid that resulted in the deaths of two Americans and two Mexican officers in a crash. Jáuregui currently faces a federal treason case in Mexico. A federal judge is expected to decide on October 24 whether Jáuregui will proceed to trial on these charges.
The situation highlights tensions regarding US security operations on Mexican soil, particularly as Washington discusses potential land-based actions against cartels while Mexico prosecutes officials for unauthorized involvement of US intelligence agents.
