Mexico and Peru implement stricter school security protocols
Governments in Mexico and Peru are implementing stricter security measures and disciplinary protocols in response to rising school violence and weapon-related incidents.
In Mexico, authorities are addressing a surge in violence, including attacks involving firearms and knives in schools across states like Coahuila, Querétaro, and Michoacán. Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch announced plans to combat this through a presidential decree requiring digital platforms to remove content inciting violence, alongside reinforcing emotional intelligence programs and installing confidential reporting boxes in schools.
In Peru, President Keiko Fujimori has endorsed new disciplinary guidelines from the Ministry of Education. These measures include reinstating student expulsions for serious offenses to restore order and reinforce teacher authority. The administration aims to prevent bullying, sexual harassment, and physical aggression, ensuring a safe environment for students while providing teachers with the tools to manage misconduct.
