Mexico pushes lactation rights and cattle worm control measures

Mexican legislators and the National Milk Industry Chamber (Canilec) highlighted actions to guarantee the right to breastfeeding for all families, emphasizing support for vulnerable groups and diverse families such as lesbian mothers. The initiative, presented by Deputy Mónica Herrera Villavicencio, introduced the platform “Lactancia materna para todos,” calling for public policies, professional accompaniment, and resources to ensure inclusive lactation support.

Deputy Verónica Martínez García (PRI) urged the federal executive to accelerate operational, budgetary, and technical actions against the re‑emergent screwworm infestation affecting cattle. She called on the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) and the National Service for Agro‑Food Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA) to intensify measures, negotiate with the U.S. USDA‑APHIS, and protect the livestock sector, which generated over 626 billion pesos in 2023, representing about 39.7 % of the primary sector’s GDP.
