Mexico reaffirms support for Palestine and Cuba at UN

During the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Mexican Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez reaffirmed Mexico's diplomatic positions regarding Palestine and Cuba. Representing President Claudia Sheinbaum, Velasco reiterated Mexico's long-standing support for a two-state solution, advocating for the right of the Palestinian people to live in peace within secure and recognized borders.

Velasco emphasized that sovereignty should be based on international law rather than military power, stating, “We believe in the legal equality of States, because sovereignty is not measured in armies or material resources.” He called for the protection of civilian populations and the respect of national territorial integrity.

Regarding Cuba, the Mexican government expressed solidarity with the Cuban people and rejected unilateral economic measures and the embargo, describing them as contrary to the UN Charter. Mexico also committed to continuing its humanitarian aid to Cuba to address urgent needs, following previous shipments of food and hygiene products provided by the Mexican Navy.
