Mexico records lowest daily homicide count as national violence trends shift

During the first week of June 2026 Mexico registered 288 homicides, with Sinaloa (32), Guanajuato (28), Estado de México (23), Guerrero (21) and Michoacán (18) leading the tally. The weekly total brings the 2026 homicide count to 7,781, the highest‑recorded figure for the year so far, with Guanajuato alone accounting for 607 deaths.

On 7 June 2026 the country reported only 28 homicide victims, the lowest single‑day total recorded under the current administration. Secretary of Security Omar García Harfuch highlighted the drop, noting that the previous low was 29 cases on 15 May. Guanajuato posted the highest daily figure with four victims, while Baja California and Sinaloa each recorded three.
