Mexico records seismic activity in Guerrero and Chiapas

Mexico experienced several seismic events on Monday, August 10, 2026. According to the National Seismological Service (SSN), the most significant earthquake occurred at 09:49 hours with a magnitude of 4.4, located 6 kilometers southwest of Atoyac de Álvarez, Guerrero, at a depth of 34 kilometers.

Other notable tremors included a magnitude 4.0 earthquake in Huixtla, Chiapas, at 12:18 hours, and a magnitude 4.2 earthquake near Mapastepec, Chiapas, at 13:14 hours. Authorities reported no injuries, fatalities, or material damage resulting from these movements.

Seismic activity is frequent in Mexico due to the interaction of the Cocos, North American, Rivera, Pacific, and Caribbean tectonic plates. The recent tremors were classified as low to moderate intensity, and no seismic alerts were activated.
