Mexico reenters top 10 global recipients of foreign direct investment
The UNCTAD World Investment Report 2026 shows Mexico captured $41 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2025, moving the country back into the top‑10 economies worldwide after ranking 11th in 2024.
Global FDI flows grew 6 % to $1.6 trillion, led by the United States with $277 billion. Mexico’s performance is attributed to investor confidence in its macro‑economic stability, the country’s role in North‑American supply chains and recent policy measures under President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The report also highlights a regional slowdown in new project announcements, with Mexico’s new‑project value falling from $44 billion in 2024 to $24 billion in 2025. Nevertheless, Mexico remains the main beneficiary of manufacturing‑related FDI in Latin America and records its fifth consecutive year of FDI growth, a 10.8 % rise over the 2024 preliminary figure.
