Mexico reports 98% drop in irregular border crossings
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported significant progress in bilateral cooperation with the United States regarding border security and drug trafficking. According to Sheinbaum, irregular crossings at the northern border of Mexico have decreased by 98 percent, while fentanyl seizures in the United States have dropped by 75 percent.
During a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson and representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), Sheinbaum highlighted these security achievements. She also noted the implementation of “mirror operations” at the border and the extradition of approximately 94 drug traffickers to U.S. territory.
While the recent meeting focused on business climate, trade, and investment under the Revenue Law, Sheinbaum announced that a separate, specific meeting will soon be held between the Ambassador, the Mexican President, and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs to address bilateral relations and security matters in more detail.
