Mexico reports hundreds of animal worm cases and dengue decline in Tabasco

The state of Hidalgo confirmed 942 cases of the screwworm fly in livestock since the pest was first detected, with 84 % of animals recovered. Health authorities recorded 14 human myiasis infections and one death, which was attributed to generalized arteriosclerosis rather than the worm.

Federal and state agencies, including SENASICA and the Secretariat of Agriculture, are coordinating control measures such as a sterile‑fly production plant in Chiapas to disrupt the insect’s life cycle.

In Tabasco, the health secretariat reported 414 dengue cases for the year, placing the state fourth nationally in incidence. The majority of cases were in Jalpa de Méndez, Centla, Nacajuca and the capital, with ongoing fumigation, source‑reduction campaigns and equipment upgrades for vector teams.
