Mexico reports improved labor income and lower unemployment for youth
Mexico's Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) reported an improvement in labor income and employment stability for young people. According to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE), the population of unemployed or available young workers decreased by approximately 23% between 2022 and the first quarter of 2026, falling to roughly 1.24 million people.
Data also indicates a reduction in income precariousness. The proportion of employed individuals aged 18 to 29 who earn less than the equivalent of a minimum wage dropped from approximately 60% in 2018 to 46.8% by June 2026, representing a decrease of 13.2 percentage points. This downward trend in low-income employment has become particularly consistent since 2023.
