Mexico health update: Dengue and Covid-19 trends vary by state
Public health reports from various Mexican states indicate fluctuating trends in viral infections. In Veracruz, dengue cases have surpassed 1,000 confirmed infections in 2026, placing the state second nationally behind Sonora. The state shows an upward trend in estimated cases and has confirmed three deaths, with 20 others under investigation.
Conversely, the State of Mexico (Edomex) has reported a reduction in dengue cases, with 115 confirmed instances during the 2026 epidemiological period compared to 140 in the previous year. The mortality rate in Edomex remains at zero, though the majority of cases are concentrated in the southern region, specifically in Luvianos.
In Hidalgo, authorities have noted a rise in Covid-19 cases, reaching 183 cumulative infections with 16 deaths recorded so far this year. There has also been an increase in notifications related to influenza-like illnesses and acute respiratory infections.
