Mexico reports trade surplus amid surge in electronic exports
Mexico recorded a significant trade surplus of $605 million in August 2026, driven by a 40.4% surge in exports. This growth was largely fueled by the manufacturing sector, particularly electrical and electronic equipment, which saw a 122.3% increase. While non-oil exports rose, automotive exports experienced a slight decline of 2.2%. For the first eight months of 2026, Mexico's cumulative trade surplus reached $9.86 billion, a sharp reversal from the deficit seen during the same period in 2025.
In the Philippines, the trade deficit narrowed by 3.5% in August 2026 to $3.85 billion. This was supported by exports reaching their highest monthly earnings since 1991, growing 27.8% year-on-year to $9.11 billion. Total external trade expanded by 21% to $22.07 billion.
Argentina also reported an accelerated trade surplus of $2.187 billion in August. Despite a rise in imports, exports grew by 12.4% compared to August 2025, reaching $8.883 billion, aided by higher international prices.
