Mexican Navy activates emergency plans for Hurricane Polo and returns US torpedo
The Mexican Navy has activated the Plan Marina in its prevention phase as Hurricane Polo, a category 5 storm, approaches the Pacific coast. The hurricane is causing heavy rains, strong winds, and high waves, leading to the partial or total restriction of several Pacific ports, including Acapulco and Zihuatanejo. The device, which was lost by the US Navy during a training exercise on September 2 near San Clemente Island, was found by fishermen and subsequently returned to US authorities through the Naval Attaché in Mexico. Officials clarified that the MK 54 REXTORP is a non-explosive training tool designed for practice launches from aircraft or vessels.
Additionally, the shrimp fishing ban in six Pacific states is being lifted in stages between September 21 and October 7, according to Conapesca.
