Mexico rolls out internet‑connected health centers and robotic surgery

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that every public health centre in Mexico – across the IMSS, ISSSTE and IMSS Bienestar networks – will be equipped with internet access to enable a unified digital clinical record for all citizens. The move is part of the Universal Health Service plan that also includes the opening of new hospitals and the hiring of better‑paid health staff.

The health ministry highlighted several technology upgrades: a nationwide rollout of the “Mírame a los ojos” voice‑recognition system, a digital‑consultation platform that already served 813,000 video appointments, the purchase of 41 new 256‑slice CT scanners for 39 hospitals in 20 states, and the deployment of five robotic‑surgery programs slated for 2026‑2027. Mexico’s first CyberKnife unit, installed at the Hospital de Oncología of the Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI, has treated 354 patients with high‑precision, minimally invasive therapy.

These initiatives aim to improve diagnosis speed, reduce hospital stays, and provide integrated care regardless of patients’ insurance affiliation.
