Mexico sees 18% rise in museum and archaeological site visits

The Secretariat of Culture reported that museums and archaeological sites managed by INAH and INBAL attracted over 57 million visitors in the past two years, marking an 18 % increase in attendance. Visits to museums and zones rose from about 20 million to 24 million between 2025 and 2026, reflecting growing public interest.

Around 400 million pesos were allocated to upgrade infrastructure at flagship locations such as Teotihuacan, the National Museum of Anthropology and the Palace of Fine Arts. New programming includes sunrise and sunset tours, special exhibitions on muralism, football and sacred games, and the opening of the Textile Museum of Indigenous and Afro‑Mexican Peoples in the historic centre, aimed at supporting artisans and preserving cultural knowledge.
