Mexico seizes 217 kg of cocaine hidden in Mexico City van
Federal and Mexico City authorities detained a 38‑year‑old man after discovering 217 kg of cocaine concealed in a modified compartment of a cargo van on the Mexico‑Cuernavaca highway in the Tlalpan district of Mexico City. The vehicle was stopped during a traffic‑safety operation, and the hidden drug packages were seized. The suspect was placed under the custody of the federal public prosecutor.
The operation involved the Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana, the Fiscalía General de la República’s Agencia de Investigación Criminal, and the local Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana. Officials said the seizure is part of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s intensified anti‑narcotics campaign, which includes greater coordination between federal and local agencies and a military presence in several states, amid pressure from the United States to curb drug trafficking.
