Mexico seizes massive weapons cache in Veracruz
Federal forces carried out a joint operation in Los Mangos, a community in the municipality of Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, uncovering one of the most significant arms seizures in recent memory. Personnel from the Guard, the Mexican Army, the Navy (Semar) and the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) raided a residence and recovered an extensive arsenal that included 91 long‑guns of various calibers, 52,690 cartridges, 50 fragmentation grenades, 2,516 magazines, launchers, improvised explosive devices, 60 ballistic helmets, 54 tactical vests and 33 ballistic plates, among other military‑grade equipment. The cache also contained 710 kg of marijuana, communications radios and several vehicles. Authorities said the material pointed to a highly organized, paramilitary‑capable criminal cell that used the property as a strategic supply hub. The coordinated deployment of four federal agencies underscored the level of intelligence and operational capacity required to secure the site without incident.
The seizure highlights ongoing security challenges in Veracruz, a state that serves as a key transit corridor for drugs, weapons and people. Officials indicated the operation is part of a broader federal strategy to dismantle heavily armed criminal networks and prevent further escalation of violence in the region.
