Mexico Senate advances consumer protection and investment reforms

The Mexican Senate's Economy Commission has approved a draft report to reform the Federal Consumer Protection Law. The proposed amendment aims to prevent providers from setting different prices for substantially equivalent goods or services based on gender. Price differences would only be permitted if they are justified by objective and verifiable factors such as quality, composition, quantity, functionality, or specific commercialization costs.

Separately, the Senate Economy Commission is set to begin analyzing presidential initiatives sent by Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. These proposals seek to reform the Foreign Investment Law and modify the Federal Penal Code and the Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property. The goal is to monitor foreign investment through a national security lens and strengthen measures against piracy and the commercial counterfeiting of intellectual property.
