Mexico signs stance to extend USMCA for another 16 years

President Claudia Sheinbaum signed Mexico's position to prolong the United States‑Mexico‑Canada Agreement (USMCA, known in Spanish as T‑MEC) for an additional 16 years. The extension will keep the trilateral trade framework in place beyond the current deadline, pending approval from the United States and Canada. Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of the pact for Mexico's economy and the need for continuity in North American trade relations.

The move comes as the three‑nation governments prepare for negotiations on the renewal, with Mexico urging a swift process while its partners consider their own timelines.
