Mexico telecommunications regulator mandates mobile line registration

The Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT) has implemented a mandatory registration and CURP linking process for mobile phone lines in Mexico to enhance security. Users who fail to complete this registration face temporary service suspension, which can occur instantly or within 72 hours of the deadline.

Registration is being rolled out according to a schedule based on the last digit of the phone number. For the upcoming period, lines ending in 3 must complete the process by September 30. Subsequent deadlines include October 15 for numbers ending in 4, October 31 for those ending in 5, November 15 for 6, and November 30 for 7. The final phase concludes in December, with deadlines on December 15 for numbers ending in 8 and December 31 for those ending in 9.

Users can complete the process online via the official CRT portal by selecting their provider, entering their number, and uploading identification. Alternatively, the procedure can be completed in person at a service provider's customer attention center by presenting official identification and providing biometric data. A 90-day grace period is available for users to reactivate lines that have already been suspended.
