Mexico traffic accidents could rise 30% during back-to-school season

The return to school season in Mexico is expected to increase automobile accidents by up to 30% nationwide. This surge is attributed to the presence of over 23.9 million basic education students, which intensifies traffic congestion and increases the number of pedestrians, cyclists, and school transport vehicles on the road.

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), peak traffic hours between 7:00–9:00 and 14:00–16:00 lead to longer travel times, increased speeds, sudden braking, and illegal double-parking.
