The 2026-2027 academic cycle in Mexico has commenced, bringing significant economic activity and logistical challenges. The start of classes is expected to generate substantial revenue, with estimates suggesting a 15 billion peso impact in the State of Mexico and a 6.14 billion peso windfall for micro and small businesses in Mexico City.

Major universities, including the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, Universidad de Sonora, and BUAP, have reported high enrollment numbers, with many institutions welcoming tens of thousands of students. In Chihuahua, the municipal government is supporting students through the ‘Mi Beca Chihuahua’ program.

Experts anticipate a potential 30% increase in automobile accidents nationwide due to the presence of over 23.9 million basic education students. This surge in pedestrians, cyclists, and school transport is expected to intensify traffic congestion during peak morning and afternoon hours, leading to increased risks on the road.
