Mexico traffic disruptions as protest blocks Toluca road and toll‑booth failure stalls Saltillo‑Torreón highway
A peaceful protest by residents of San Pedro Tultepec forced the closure of the central lanes of the Paseo Tollocan highway near Toluca. Demonstrators marched to demand action to protect the Laguna de Chimaliapan, which they say is threatened by contaminated water from the Lerma River. State police redirected traffic to the outer lanes and advised drivers to avoid the area.
Separately, a malfunction in the toll‑collection system at the Plan de Ayala‑El Porvenir plaza caused a severe traffic jam on the Saltillo‑Torreón highway. Vehicles were stranded for hours, with queues extending up to four kilometres. Federal road authorities urged motorists to drive cautiously and expect delays, while no timeline for restoring the toll booth was provided.
