Mexico training centers expand programs to address truck driver shortage

Training institutions in Mexico are expanding programs to address a significant shortage of heavy vehicle operators in the logistics and freight sectors.

In Michoacán, the Cetransporta program at ICATMI is enrolling its third generation of trainees for a course starting in October. The program offers theoretical and practical training for federal and international type B and C licenses, endorsed by the SICT and SEP. Selected participants receive a monthly scholarship of 9,573 pesos during the six-month training period. The program aims to facilitate job placement through connections with the Asociación de Transportistas de Cárdenas (ATLAC).

In Sonora, Icatson has received a tractor-trailer unit via a loan from CANACAR to enhance practical training for students. This initiative aims to support the training of approximately 90,000 students seeking certification as truck operators. The addition of real-world vehicle maneuvering and coupling practice is intended to complement theoretical studies and simulator use, helping to mitigate the national deficit of skilled drivers.
