Mexico weather alert: Pacific low-pressure system nears cyclonic development
Multiple weather systems are currently impacting Mexico, most notably a low-pressure area in the Pacific Ocean with an 80 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within 48 hours and a 90 percent chance within seven days. This system is moving north near the coasts of Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacán. Authorities in Jalisco have reinforced preventive measures, including reviewing temporary shelters and evacuation procedures for vulnerable coastal populations.
In addition to the potential cyclone, several other systems are being monitored. A second low-pressure zone southwest of the Baja California peninsula holds an 80 percent chance of cyclonic development. A third system, related to the remnants of tropical depression 15-E, is also under observation.
Heavy rainfall is expected across various regions due to the Mexican monsoon, tropical waves, and low-pressure channels. Intense rains are forecasted for Chiapas, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Veracruz, and parts of the Yucatán Peninsula. Other areas, including Sonora, Chihuahua, and Durango, are expected to experience significant precipitation and wind gusts. High temperatures continue to persist in several states, with some regions reaching up to 45 °C.
