Mexico weather: Monsoon rains, tropical waves, and Sahara dust
Mexico is experiencing diverse and intense weather patterns driven by several meteorological systems. The Mexican monsoon and upper-level divergence are triggering heavy rainfall across the northwest, specifically in Sonora, Chihuahua, and Sinaloa. In the southeast, tropical wave number 38 is bringing moisture and rain to the Yucatan Peninsula, including Quintana Roo.
Simultaneously, the Yucatan region is preparing for a layer of Sahara dust to arrive between September 13 and 15, which may cause hazy skies and reddish sunsets. While authorities state air quality is not expected to reach dangerous levels, vulnerable populations are advised to take precautions.
In the Pacific, tropical storm Norbert is moving away from the coast, though moisture from low-pressure systems continues to influence weather in Jalisco. High temperatures also persist in several northern and coastal states, including Baja California, Sinaloa, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.
